How to watch the Emmys

The 68th annual Emmy Awards are this Sunday, and you’ve already got front-row tickets.

Facebook and ABC are partnering up to bring you onto the red carpet and in the Microsoft Theater in in Los Angeles with 360-degree videos. You’ll be able to experience the awards and its host, Jimmy Kimmel, as if you were right there in the audience.

A 360-degree camera will be placed in the orchestra pit during the show so you’ll get a nice view of the stage. Facebook will also be hosting exclusive 360-degree videos from backstage and from the red carpet as well.

Samsung Gear VR headset

Using your smartphone and a VR headset, like Google Cardboard, you’ll be able experience the Emmys live. Samsung users can use their Gear VR headsets to view the 360-degree live stream via the Oculus app. Don’t worry if you don’t have a VR headset, as you’ll still be able to pan around the videos by swiping on your phone or dragging your mouse around on a computer.

The 68th Emmy Awards will celebrate the people behind the television shows we love. Shows like Mr Robot, House of Cards, Downton Abbey and Game of Thrones are all up for the Outstanding Drama award.

When do the awards start?

The 68th Emmy awards will begin Sunday September 18, 7PM ET in the United States. That’s Monday September 19 at Midnight BST in the UK and 9AM AEST in Sydney, Australia.

How to watch the Emmys in the US

You can watch the Emmy’s live on television on ABC’s channel. Alternatively, you can stream online at or via its mobile apps, but you’ll need a paid TV subscription account. Unfortunately, ABC’s official site, app and television stream are the only way to watch Kimmel’s monologue.

The good news is that Kimmel will be posting a live stream on his Facebook page after his monologue, so you can watch the rest of the show there. Facebook pages for ABC and the Emmys will simultaneously broadcast the live stream thanks to Facebook’s cross-posting feature.

Instagram’s Boomerang videos blur the line between photo and video.

US users will also be able to check out looping videos created in Facebook’s “Boomerang Booth” backstage at the Emmys. Instagram will have an Emmys event channel where you can view all the Boomerang content coming from the show.

How to watch the Emmys in the UK and AU

Unfortunately, there are limited options for watching the 2016 Emmy Awards live overseas. Your best option is to watch the 360-degree live stream on Jimmy Kimmel’s Facebook page, though it’s unclear weather that stream will be broadcast worldwide simultaneously. We’ve reached out to Facebook for clarification and will update when we hear back.
