IET events this August – #engineering and technology dates for your diary

This summer the IET is offering lots of great networking opportunities for young engineers.

Around the world, there are a number of IET social events underway this month, designed for local engineering students, apprentices and professional engineers to meet and network. This includes a chance for students in Melbourne to meet with local employers, as well as IET Auckland’s annual networking dinner.

In addition to seminars and courses on offer to members and non-members alike, there are also several technical visits taking place, including a trip to Hong Kong’s first smart care home and University College London’s Pedestrian Accessibility Movement and Environment Lab; lovingly referred to as PAMELA.

There are also several great competitions going on, including the Young Entrepreneurs competition and the IET International Engineering Photography Competition, which is accepting entries until the end of the month. Looking to challenge the traditional image of engineers wearing hard hats and dirty overalls, this competition is out to find images that highlight the dynamic, creative and progressive face of engineering and engineers today.

Finally, for anyone starting an IET accredited course in the UK this autumn you might also want to find out about IET Diamond Jubilee Scholarships. The entry deadline for applicants is 24 August, so there’s still time to apply.
