Boeing has unveiled an extended version of its best-selling 737 airliners at the Paris Air Show, as the US aerospace giant battles back against European arch-rival Airbus.

The new aircraft — the 737 MAX 10 — has had its fuselage stretched by 168cm, allowing it to accommodate up to 230 passengers and placing it in direct competition with rival Airbus’ A321neo jet.

Boeing said it had already gathered more than 280 orders for the MAX aircraft family and the 787 Dreamliner at the show, worth more than $37 billion in total. Airbus announced 112 orders for its neo family, worth $12.3bn.

E&T reported on the latest news from the Paris Air Show yesterday, as the show got underway.
