Put on your single glove, pull on the primary colour v-neck sweater, smooth down the nylon slacks, steadily plant your spats shoulder-width apart, drop the knees, and place in your hand… the Spider Interactive Powered by Blast.
You’ll be the complete golfer, learning all the feedback from your special smart putter.
Smart golf
It’s not the first time we have covered Golf on Gadget Master. For example, back in 2013, we covered the SwingByte golf gadget, which analyses your swing in detail.
Data it recorded included speed of shot, angle of swing, degree of openness of club face, and shot shape. But while that was a unit for clipping on whichever club you were playing, this latest device is specifically for putting.
(Also, on a sister blog – Made By Monkeys – I once wrote about Night Vision Golf headsets, but back to the Spider Interactive…)
Putter sensors
The company behind it is TaylorMade Golf, and you can read all about the putter on their website. They’ve taken their The Spider putter and incorporated motion capture sensors from Blast. Creating what is described as a totally-integrated golf sensor product.
Basically, Spider Interactive automatically captures “stroke metrics” in a non-intrusive design built into the top of the putter’s grip.
Putting stroke metrics recorded include timing (backstroke time, forward stroke time, tempo), and impact stroke speed and face rotation.
“We’ve created a powerful putting solution that analyzes a golfer’s putting stroke to provide improvement insights and help them understand how to progress through a guided improvement journey,” said Michael Fitzpatrick, Blast Motion CEO and co-founder.
There is also, apparently, an accompanying app (although I can’t find it on Google Play). It includes the ability to video record your stroke, to provide feedback.
You can also track your progress over time with performance history and interactive graphs, along with tiered training modules and drills to help improve putting.
Available for purchase since 23 March, buying the Spider Interactive putter will sink $399.
The club is offered “in an L-neck (21° toe hang) or double bend (face-balanced) hosel in 34” and 35” lengths in both RH and LH.”
