Picture of the Day: Humanoid Robots carry Olympic torch for South Korea

Check out the robot HUBO helping to carry the Olympic torch, as part of the build-up to the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. It apparently covered 150 meters as part of the relay.

Intended to celebrate information and communications technology, it was a nice high-tech touch from the South Koreans.

Robotic

There was actually a robotics theme. For example, the flame was also passed on to Professor Oh Jun-ho, the man responsible for developing the technology, Korea’s first humanoid robot.

The robotics professor Dr. Dennis Hong had also carried the torch on a short trip in a vehicle driven by a robot. And there’s more.

FX-2 – a larger human-operated robot – controlled by a scientist and student – also carried the flame.
